BRIDE VALLEY NEWS REPORT for JUNE 2013
With the weather warming up at last, our sports are warming up too!
Our cricket team played a very exciting match against St Osmund’s Middle School, Dorchester.
This was the team’s very first match and they played very well; sadly, they lost, but will take their
experience forward to their next match.
The whole school enjoyed an afternoon of gymnastics. We are hoping to put together a team for
the Beaminster gym competition in July.
Year 4 enjoyed the Tri-Golf ‘West Big Swing’ at Colfox. This was a festival between schools in
Lyme, Bridport, Weymouth and Portland as a qualifier to determine which three schools will
represent West Dorset in the Dorset School Games in June.
Our team participated in the Team Theme tournament at St Mary’s Bridport. It is wonderful that
the children are able to play sports and games with our pyramid schools.
SPLASHATHON, our annual sponsored swimming event at the Bridport Leisure Centre, is
expected to raise between £600 and £800. Thank you to all who took part and donated to this
essential fundraiser for our swimming pool.
Chesil and Litton used our very own Willow Dome in the
Discovery Area to make music.
The children went to Hive Beach as part of their
Art/Sculpture work. The weather was dodgy but the
children had a great time.
Eggardon have been learning about reversible and
irreversible changes through breadmaking.
A big thank you to two of our
parents, Sandie Burton and
Kate Smith for raising £450 for
an iPad for school. The TSA is
funding two more ipads so that
we can provide our children the
experience of using these
devices.

NEWSLETTER No.16 - 17 MAY 2013
Pyramid sports: Some of the Eggardon children will play in a Team Theme Tournament on Thursday 23
May at St Mary’s Bridport. Some Eggardon children are participating in a Kwik Kricket Tournament at
Bridport on Tuesday 21 May. Being in a rural area, we are able to participate in such tournaments only
because parents kindly help with transport to take the children to Bridport and pick them up. For both these
events, we have insufficient help which could mean that we will be unable to participate. Please do let us
know if you can help with transport.
Gym: We have had more gym in school, kindly provided by Jane Hutchins.
Swimming: The children will be swimming in our pool after half term. Please ensure that you send your
child in every day with all that they need. A leaflet about swimming has come home with your child; if you
are unsure about what is needed, please ask your child’s teacher.
Chesil/Litton need a few adult helpers to be with them while swimming. This would be from 1pm to
2pm every afternoon. If you are able to help please let Marion know.
Chesil/Litton: The children enjoyed a lovely afternoon on Hive Beach making sculptures. Mrs Jevons and
Mrs Williams would like to thank the parents who kindly helped.
School nurse visit: The school nurse will be available on Wednesday 22 May from 3.15pm to 3.45pm,
should any parents wish to see her.
Staff: We have appointed Mrs Wakely as our new Lunchtime Supervisor and she will start after half term.
Church Fete: A must for your diary - the fete will be in LATCH on Bank Holiday Monday 27 May from 2
pm to about 4 pm. There will be a range of stalls and food, including delicious teas. The special attraction
is Maypole dancing by Eggardon and Bredy at 3pm. Mrs Gundry has been busy teaching the children
and has even suggested that adults could have a go on the day – there’s a challenge!
Musicathon: A sponsored Musicathon is taking place on Saturday 22 June from 9am to 5pm at Bridport
United Church. Mrs Jevons would like to take a small group along if anyone is interested. Each group will
have a 10 minute slot. Please let Mrs Jevons know if you are interested and also what time would suit you.
Local Food Links are introducing a new online ordering system in July. At present, hot meals have to be
ordered through the school office and Marion has done a tremendous job (and is spending a great deal of
time!) manually completing individual orders. Local Food Links are very grateful to parents for supporting
them with paper orders while they are in between systems; we have sent you a separate email from them.
Thorners Got Talent and School Disco on Friday 7 June from 3.30pm to 6 pm in LATCH - this is the
place to be! The Jalopy Pizza Van will sell pizzas and the TSA will be selling soft drinks/ tea/ cakes and
doing a raffle. Children can ‘disco’ dress up and all children must be accompanied by an adult.Tennis:
Parents and families are welcome to use the tennis court after school and on weekends and holidays at a
charge of £20 for the rest of the year 2013. Please contact Marion for details.

Reminder: We have a Staff Day on Friday 24 May. School reopens on Monday 3 June after half term
Yours sincerely
