THE LITTON CHENEY RELIEF IN NEED TRUST
As in previous years, the Trustees of this Charity invite grant applications from students living in Litton Cheney who are finishing their full time school or 6th form college education this summer and are intending to follow a course in higher education at university or enter full time employment this year.

LITTON CHENEY ALLOTMENT SOCIETY
The Litton Cheney Allotment Society was established in February 2008 and land was made available to villagers at the south end of the village playing fields.

As of January 2011 we have 12 plots (including one half sized plot and one double plot) and all are currently occupied. The plots are relatively small (most are 10mx 8m) but plenty big enough to produce fresh produce for a small family, and it is a lovely spot to work in.
Three families share the chicken run with up to 9 hens. This year we have been letting them out to roam for a few hours most days, and they make happy companions as they potter and fuss around.

EYES ALONG THE COAST

NCI Lyme Bay are still in the above temporary location, courtesy of Mary-Lou Sturridge at Burton Cliff Hotel, but have recently submitted a planning application to West Dorset District Council to re-locate to larger and more permanent premises on the East Pier at West Bay, where watch-keepers would be able to keep a better watch over the approaches to both West Bay Harbour and Lyme Regis Harbour.
The planning application includes the provision of a dedicated room at the Look-Out for the RNLI Beach Lifeguards during the summer.
NCI Lyme Bay have also submitted a bid for a slice of the West Bay Enhancement Fund in order to provide a purpose built station for themselves and the RNLI, and to equip it with up-to-date communications and radar equipment.
Since first opening in July 2010 the NCI Lyme Bay team has grown from half a dozen qualified watch-keepers to nearly thirty. A further dozen or more are currently undergoing training, with the aim of being able to maintain a daylight watch seven days a week by the start of the 2012 summer season and, possibly, evening watches during the period of the Olympics. They are urgently looking for further recruits. LYME BAY NCI PRESENTATION OF CHEQUES
On Thursday 2nd February, Luke Shirley accompanied by his brother Max and two fellow Colfox School students Mila King and Frank Baxter presented the Lyme Bay NCI Chairman, Air Marshal Sir Christopher Coville with a cheque at the Lookout, Burton Bradstock. The boys together with friends and parents joined Steve Spear for a challenging three seas swim over Christmas. The proceeds of sponsorship were shared equally with the RNLI. Also present was Michael Seaman an NCI member who with his wife Jo bravely endured the cold sea, with sponsors contributions adding to the much needed funds to build a new Lookout in the area. All the swimmers, none of whom were wearing wetsuits, apparently enjoyed the challenge. Afterwards the boys talked about their future careers with Sir Christopher and listened intently to a few snippets of his service in the RAF, and were interested to learn of the opportunities to join the Coastwatch as Cadets at the age of sixteen and benefit from a training programme including chartwork, navigation, meteorology, radio communications etc
